Skin cancer workshop to educate, protect Boilermakers | Campus

Boilermakers can attend an upcoming workshop about skin cancer to help educate themselves on protecting their skin.

The Healthy Boiler workshop “Skin Cancer Awareness” will be hosted by Whitney Soto, registered nurse health coach at the Center for Healthy Living, according to a Purdue press release.

Those attending will learn about sun exposure, what to consider when under the sun and skin protection to ideally help prevent skin cancer.

This workshop will be from noon to 1 p.m. July 23. To attend make sure to register prior to the beginning of the start time via the Healthy Boiler Portal.

“(The Sun) helps release serotonin [our ‘feel good hormone’], helps with the production of vitamin D and even helps improve sleep quality,” Soto said in the release. “However, it’s also important to understand the risks of overexposure and take proper precautions when spending time outdoors.”

According to the release, Healthy Boiler workshops are free to all benefits-eligible Purdue employees and their dependents.
