Former strict vegan Laura Sliazaite now lives on meat, butter and sardines- claiming the caveman-style carnivore diet cured her cravings, eczema and fatigue
She was once a strict vegan eating only green and that which was from the earth but now she’s addicted to meat.
Laura Sliazaite is a 41 year old carnivore and claims she is healthier and happier because of it.
Many consider the diet to be crazy as it consists of meat, fish eggs and sticks of butter, really Laura and those who diet like her are going back to the hunter gatherer era and eating like cavemen.
Laura has now been on this diet for two-and-a-half years after only intending to try it out for a mere 30 days. She now shuns traditional choices as she’s become hooked on the ancient diet which she claims she has experienced a plethora of benefits as a result of.
“I stick with it because it’s the way of eating that genuinely makes me feel my best — my energy is stable, my cravings disappeared, and it’s had a profoundly positive impact on my overall wellbeing and mood” says Laura.
Ensuring this diet is going nowhere, she plans on continuing it for life and that when she has tried reintegrating a modern humans diet she has only ever experienced negatives, reinforcing her beliefs that the carnivore diet is the way to go.
She explained: “Last summer, I experimented with reintroducing a small amount of vegetables and berries, just to see how flexible I could be.
“It didn’t go well for me personally – I started noticing old symptoms creeping back in.
“My mood dipped, cravings returned, I felt hungrier overall, and even my eczema flared up again.
“That was a clear signal that I feel and function best when I stay strictly carnivore, so I went back to it and those issues settled.”
Laura’s traditional diet begins with eggs and continues along the protein lines with chicken liver for lunch and a whole beef joint for dinner doused in butter and salt.
She also completes challenges like weeks, like that of her ‘sardine fast’ which involved eating four cans of sardines a day with a little salt sprinkled on top as a treat- she claims this week resulted in high energy levels, improved sleep, less inflammation and no brain fog. The same can’t be said for her old ways.
Her previous diet, Veganism, meant Sliazaite abstained from meat for 13 years, embracing the vegan diet wholeheartedly, and not touching any animal related product either. Sliazaite was also struggling with many health issues at the time of this diet which she feels has changed drastically since switching to the carnivore diet.
Sliazaite doesn’t listen to the haters who suggest she will die from a heart attack, with studies suggesting the carnivore diet is too high in salts etc. Laura ensures that she feels better than ever before on her salt rich diet.
She said: “I’ve noticed profound changes in my health since adopting this lifestyle, and those improvements have continued over time.
“Before, I dealt with a long list of issues – depression, joint pain, chronic fatigue, skin itchiness, eczema, easy bruising, bleeding gums, fragile nails, migraines, inflammation, insomnia, and a lot of stress and anxiety.
“When I was vegan, I also became anaemic, and even after more than two years of eating mostly red meat, I’m technically still anaemic, but the symptoms feel dramatically reduced.
“What’s been remarkable for me personally is how many of those challenges have eased or disappeared since going carnivore.
“I’m always careful to say that diet isn’t the only factor in health – I genuinely believe we’re a soul having a body experience, and food is just one part of the equation.
“Alongside the diet, I’ve always practised meditation, breathwork, sound healing, energy and frequency work.
The difference is that since going carnivore, all of those practices feel amplified. It’s as if my physical well-being upgraded.”
In following her strict regime Sliazaite now has to spend £250- £300 per month on groceries and she thinks it’s worth it.
She said: “I’ve definitely noticed the rise in prices, but it’s not just meat – the cost of everything has gone up.
“So even if I were eating a different way, it would still be expensive.
“The good thing is that you can do carnivore on a budget if you’re intentional.
“I look for promotions and discounts, choose cheaper cuts, and I don’t rely only on steaks.
“Ground beef is much more affordable, and adding organ meats helps too – they’re inexpensive and extremely nutrient‑dense.”
