No gym. No workout. Madhavan, just by changing his chewing style and food habits, lost weight in 21 days. Gastro doctor explains why it works

Madhavan gained a lot of weight to essay the role of Nambi Narayanan in the 2022 biographical drama ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect.’ However, the veteran actor stunned fans by undergoing a drastic weight loss change soon after. In an interview with Curly Tales, the actor claimed he lost weight without exercise, surgery, or supplements. He only focused on food that was good for his body for 21 days.

Since he had to gain and lose a lot of weight within a short frame of time, the ‘Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein’ star said he underwent an allergy test that revealed his intolerance to foods. This helped him lose weight.

He also shared additional lifestyle practices that played a key role in speeding up his weight loss journey. He adopted intermittent fasting to regulate his eating window and made a conscious effort to chew every bite thoroughly—sometimes up to 45–60 times—to aid digestion and nutrient absorption. His final meal of the day was fixed at 6:45 p.m., and after 3 p.m., he avoided raw foods completely, choosing only freshly cooked options.
Daily movement was a priority, with long morning walks becoming a routine part of his schedule. To support recovery and overall health, he maintained an early bedtime, ensuring deep rest while eliminating screen exposure at least an hour and a half before sleep. Hydration also played a vital role, as he consumed generous amounts of fluids throughout the day.

His diet emphasized whole, natural foods. Green vegetables and easily digestible meals formed the bulk of his plate, while anything heavily processed was entirely excluded. By combining mindful eating, consistent physical activity, proper rest, and a nutrient-rich diet, he created a sustainable system that encouraged steady and healthy weight reduction.

‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’ hit the big screens in July 2022. It received a lukewarm response at the box office, earning only a modest Rs 50 crore against a budget of Rs 25 crore. The biographical drama marked Madhavan’s directorial debut.
The movie portrays the remarkable life of Nambi Narayanan, with R. Madhavan taking on the central role. Narayanan, a distinguished scientist at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), faced a turbulent phase in his career when he was falsely implicated in an espionage scandal, only to be cleared of all accusations later. The narrative traces his journey from his academic years at Princeton University as a graduate student, highlighting his intellectual growth, before moving into his significant contributions as a scientist. It also delves into the unjust charges that derailed his life and career for a period. Simran appears as the leading lady in the film.

Dr Pal Manickam Reacts To Madhavan’s Eating Habits

Gut health expert Dr. Pal Manickam reacted to the video and agreed that food is key to health and fitness and the ‘medicine.’ However, he also advised his followers to combine diet with exercise so as not to lose muscle mass.

Can Food Allergies Influence Weight Gain?

According to an article shared by Juniper UK, food allergies not only restrict dietary choices but also influence eating behaviors and overall nutrition. Individuals with allergies must steer clear of certain foods to prevent adverse reactions, but these restrictions can sometimes disturb dietary balance.

For example, cutting out common triggers such as dairy, wheat, or nuts may push people toward alternative foods that are less nutrient-dense. Over time, this shift in eating patterns could contribute to weight-related challenges.

Food allergies also spark immune responses that create inflammation in the body. Persistent inflammation has long been linked to weight gain and obesity, making it another indirect factor in the relationship between allergies and body weight.

Behavioral and emotional influences play a role as well. Constantly managing allergies can be stressful, and stress often leads to emotional eating. This cycle may gradually cause weight gain.

Food intolerances and sensitivities, while distinct from allergies, can also have an impact. They often produce bloating, gas, and abdominal swelling, which may be mistaken for extra weight. Additionally, these intolerances can inflame the digestive tract, and chronic inflammation remains a well-documented contributor to weight gain.

Thus, both physiological and psychological pathways connect allergies and intolerances to potential weight issues.
