A man on the high-protein ‘Carnivore diet’ where people typically eat meat, butter and eggs, got a wake up call when he saw an alarming body change. He has a cholesterol of 1,000.
He took up the latest weight loss diet eating copious amounts of meat and butter, and now it appears a man on the Carnivore Diet is paying the price.
A man who ate ‘very extreme amounts of fat and protein’ as part of the carnivore diet suddenly developed yellow lumps on the palms of his hands. These lumps were deposits of excess cholesterol under his skin, according to his doctor.
The man, who is in his 40s, was eating up to 6 to 9 pounds of cheese a day, plus sticks of butter and other fat that he would add to his daily meat in-take of hamburgers, Dr. Kostas Marmagkiolis told Today.com.

Dr. Kostas, an interventional cardiologist at Tampa General Hospital, USF Health and Tampa Heart in Florida, who treated him, said the man’s blood cholesterol was 1,000.
Shedding a light on the severity of the situation, the medical expert told Today.com: “This patient was not aware that his cholesterol was that high.” He said: “Abruptly within one year, his cholesterol dramatically increased, and at the same time, those lesions appeared.”
He continued: “So we have to assume, based on the history of this patient, that those lesions were directly caused by the high cholesterol, which was directly caused by the type of diet that he was (eating).” Meanwhile, it was the opposite story for a mom on the Carnivore diet who said she managed to cure a bunch of health problems since switching to the high-protein lifestyle. Sarah, a Miami-based mother of three, discovered the diet through “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast. Intrigued by its potential benefits, she found the carnivore diet to be life-changing. “I started the carnivore diet in 2017, though my initial attempts weren’t perfect,” she told WalesOnline. “But as I committed more fully, I felt increasingly better.”
Prior to embracing the Carnivore Diet, Sarah had tried the keto diet, which also restricts carbs. As a model, influencer, and musician grappling with anxiety, she was amazed by the mental clarity and energy she experienced after just a week on keto. “It was remarkable. I didn’t even realize I had brain fog until it cleared,” she recalled.
Sarah had also struggled with binge-eating disorder, prompting her search for more effective solutions. She came across an episode of Rogan’s podcast featuring Dr. Shawn Baker, who introduced her to the concept of plant toxins.
“I was shocked,” Sarah remembers. “Despite years of nutritional study, I had never considered that plant toxins could be harmful. It made me rethink everything I’d learned about the health benefits of fruits and vegetables.”
