Bouffard, who worked with Dr. Troy Shumann and his team at the St. Elizabeth Weight Management Center, emphasized the importance of tackling mental health alongside weight loss. “We look at it in the sense that if you don’t fix why they do what they do, it comes back,” said Dr. Shumann, medical director of the center.
Bouffard shared her experience, saying, “They have a three-pronged approach. I saw Dr. Shumann, a dietitian every two weeks, and they also have an on-staff psychologist.” She noted that GLP-1 medications help reduce hunger, but managing emotional eating is crucial for maintaining weight loss. “Mainly making me think, why do I turn to food? What can I do instead?” Bouffard said.
