Nowadays, people blindly trust social media, often leading to trouble. Recently, an American woman shared her experience of following a diet she discovered online, which ultimately landed her in hospital.
According to a report by The New York Post, 23-year-old Eve Catherine, a content creator from Dallas in the US state of Texas, adopted a carnivore diet that was trending on social media. She was so influenced by it that she began following it strictly, consuming only meat and fish.
Under this regime, Eve ate large amounts of protein-rich food daily. Her breakfast typically consisted of two to three eggs, lunch included high-protein yoghurt, and dinner featured a New York strip steak. During a routine check-up, her doctor found an elevated level of protein in her urine. However, Eve ignored this warning sign and continued with her high-protein diet for an extended period.
One morning, she was shocked to find a significant amount of blood in her urine. It was then that she realised the harmful effects of her diet. Her excessive protein intake had led to kidney stones, and she eventually passed a stone while in hospital.
Apart from kidney stones, consuming a high-protein diet in excess can cause constipation, headaches, and even increase the risk of heart disease.
Only after suffering these consequences did Eve understand the dangers of the carnivore diet. Doctors have since warned against following such extreme diets that focus solely on meat consumption, emphasising the importance of a balanced diet for overall health.
