JACKSON, Mo. (KBSI) — Students at East Elementary in Jackson got a colorful lesson in nutrition during this week’s Field Trip Friday. Mrs. Brune’s second grade class welcomed nutrition expert Hannah Schellman, who led a session on the importance of healthy eating and how the right foods fuel both the body and mind.
Schellman used a simple comparison comparing food to fuel, much like gas for a car, to help students understand how their diet affects their energy and growth. “Your body needs fuel to get around,” she explained. “So we’re going to talk about what foods help us run and play and do all the things we need.”
Using the image of a plate, Schellman encouraged students to think about the healthy food options they can create.
