The Association of Certified Fitness Trainers (ACTIF) is calling on Malaysians to make informed, evidence-based nutrition choices by recognising the role of locally produced, sustainable palm oil in supporting healthier lifestyles.
As non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol continue to rise, ACTIF stresses the importance of balanced diets, smarter cooking and a better understanding of the nutritional value of local foods.
ACTIF President Mohd Husaini bin Mohd Yusoff urges Malaysians to move past misconceptions about palm oil and recognise it as a nutritious, stable and affordable option.
He notes that palm oil is naturally free from trans fats, rich in vitamin E tocotrienols and high in antioxidants, which support heart and immune health. When used properly in a balanced diet, it offers excellent heat stability for frying and helps preserve nutrients in food.
Husaini added that palm oil produced under the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) certification meets stringent food safety and sustainability standards, giving consumers confidence that they can support both their health and responsible local production.
He encourages Malaysians to look for the MSPO logo on cooking oils and food products as an assurance of quality and sustainability.
Husaini also emphasises that promoting balanced nutrition aligns with ACTIF’s mission to build a healthier, more active nation. He advises against restrictive diets and imported health fads, advocating instead for practical, science-based guidance suited to local needs.
Healthy living, he said, includes preparing traditional dishes with good oils, proper cooking temperatures and sensible portions.
He highlights the role of fitness trainers, health educators and wellness professionals in helping Malaysians make informed daily choices. ACTIF members aim to bridge the gap between fitness and nutrition, promoting sustainable local options like MSPO-certified palm oil as beneficial for both individual health and national well-being.
ACTIF reaffirms its commitment to working with partners across the health, nutrition and sustainability sectors to strengthen public awareness of healthy living and responsible food choices.
Husaini concludes that investing in prevention, nutrition literacy and sustainable local products today is key to building a stronger, healthier Malaysia grounded in science, sustainability and self-care.
