Lawrence County students learn about healthy living and agriculture Oct. 16 at Route 50 CrossFit.
The Lawrence County Farm Bureau shared in a recent press release that it has teamed up with Route 50 CrossFit to launch a new educational field trip called Harvesting Your Health, designed to teach local third graders the importance of healthy living and agriculture.
Students from Bridgeport Grade School and Parkside Elementary were able to spend the day rotating through hands-on stations that combined physical activity, nutrition education and agricultural awareness.
The press release said that at one station, Route 50 CrossFit instructors Morgan Arnold and Samantha Baker led students through a Halloween-themed “Workout of the Day” — showing how fun and teamwork can make exercise enjoyable.
Other stations focused on healthy snack habits, the connection between farming and food, and how agricultural products fuel both our bodies and communities.

AgRevolution of Vincennes, Indiana, also allowed the students the opportunity to explore modern farm technology and learn how tractors help farmers plant, grow, and harvest crops. Students were also able to climb inside the cab to see controls up close, discovering how horsepower and high-tech systems come together to help farmers get big jobs done efficiently.
“Our goal with Harvesting Your Health was to give students a well-rounded look at how agriculture impacts their daily lives—from the food they eat to the energy they use to stay active,” said Molly Seals, Lawrence County Farm Bureau Manager, in the press release. “By connecting fitness and farming, we hope to help kids appreciate the value of healthy choices and the people who make their food possible.”
The Lawrence County Farm Bureau shared its hopes to continue offering Harvesting Your Health in the years to come, expanding opportunities for students to learn, move and grow through agriculture
