Healthy eating habits take centre stage in Nurpur’s nutrition drive

To generate awareness on healthy eating and maternal health, the Child Development Project Office (CDPO), Nurpur, on Thursday organised a programme under the 8th National Nutrition Month (NNM) at the anganwadi centre of Bhaleta gram panchayat. The campaign, observed from September 17 to October 16 every year, aims to eliminate malnutrition and encourage healthy dietary practices.

The event was chaired by District Programme Officer Ashok Kumar, who addressed women and children, stressing the importance of balanced diets, obesity prevention and restricted consumption of oil, fats, sugar and salt. He urged people to reduce junk food intake and adopt nutritious meals rich in fruits and vegetables.

Nurpur CDPO Sunit Kumar highlighted that the campaign also focuses on reducing stunting, underweight and low-birth-weight cases among children and anaemia among women and girls.

Anganwadi workers held an awareness rally on nutrition, while a plantation drive was organised at Civil Hospital, Nurpur. Anganwadi and ASHA workers also actively participated in the programme. Popularly known as Poshan Maah, NNM is a government-led initiative under the Prime Minister’s overarching scheme for holistic nourishment, focusing on children, adolescent girls and expectant and lactating mothers.
