Yoga Rishi Swami Ramdev and Jain saint Antarmana Acharya Prasanna Sagar Maharaj launched the mass movement ‘One Fast Every Month’ at the two-day ‘International Janmangal Convention’ that commenced at the Bharat Mandapam on Friday.
The movement aims to promote spiritual growth, physical well-being, and self-discipline among the people.

This fasting is set to be observed on the seventh day of every month.
In his address at the conference, Swami Ramdev said that every faith, sect, tradition, religion, ritual, and auspicious occasion equally values and incorporates fasting, which is considered a noble and sacred practice.
“Fasting cleanses the body, mind, and a person’s inner self, freeing them from life’s attachments while they’re alive,” he said.
The two-day conference is held in four phases, where the sessions are aimed at human welfare with a holistic approach, including fasting, meditation, yoga, and swadeshi thinking.
Both the visionary Gurus vowed to give humanity a powerful mantra for ‘Janmangal’ with the ‘One Fast Every Month’ movement.
Notably, the campaign has drawn prominent saints, politicians, celebrities, and lakhs of people worldwide.
During his address, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who also attended a session, said that the event is a confluence of spirituality and yoga, and will send across a new message to the country and the world.
“The message will spread starting from Delhi to the nation, and from the nation to the world,” he added.
The ‘International Janmangal Conference’ is super relevant, said Birla, adding that he will also observe a fast once every month.
Prasanna Sagar Maharaj said that fasting is a divine method to awaken the spiritual energy.
The purpose of fasting is to purify the mind, body, and soul, and it is an important way to make the body better and cleaner, de-stressing the mind, and improving one’s life.
During fasting, a person’s emotions get balanced, anger decreases, and the brain remains peaceful, and the person’s concentration span increases.
“A person distances himself from negativity while fasting, and experiences positivity and balance of thoughts,” Maharaj added.
While addressing the convention, Patanjali’s Acharya Balkrishna said that it was an honor for him to be in the company of such great saints.
He threw light on the importance of fasting in Ayurveda, and also mentioned the relevance of fasting across several countries.
He said that restaurant culture is the biggest reason behind the causes of diseases, adding that one should eat less, but always offer food to those who do not have it, which he said is also like a fast.
“The one who eats too much can never be pure, virtuous,” he said, adding that only the one who fasts can become a dedicated spiritual practitioner.
“Our saints are the biggest example to prove this,” Balkrishna added.
He added that eating in excess is the reason behind developing health issues, as it creates toxins.
Meanwhile, Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, who was also present on the occasion, said that not only Indians, but people around the world are learning Yoga, Pranayama, and Ayurveda from revered Swami Ramdev.
He said that Ramdev not only taught everyone Yoga, but also established the Bhartiya Siksha Board, making Swadeshi knowledge and education accessible to all.
Delhi Cabinet Minister Parvesh Verma, who was also present on the occasion, said that the movement of fasting has begun under the guidance of revered saints like Swami Ramdev, and everyone must benefit from it.
He said that one must observe a fast once a week, as it helps detox the body.
Meanwhile, the initiative, spearheaded by Swami Ramdev and Acharya Prasanna Sagar, encourages everyone to observe a fast on the seventh day of every month.
The movement is also aimed at bringing people together, promoting healthy living, and fostering a sense of community
